Child Aid

Child Aid is an international aid organization that combats poverty and illiteracy in Guatemala by empowering teachers and schools to improve the quality of education for their students. We accomplish this through high-quality teacher training, book donations and support of literacy programs in some of Guatemala’s poorest and most underprivileged public schools. We work in communities whose children desperately need access to better education to escape poverty and improve their lives. However, they attend schools that are trapped in a repeating cycle of poor quality instruction, insufficient resources and low expectations. Our programs emphasize the literacy skills that make reading to learn possible. Our vision is for students to become skilled readers and independent learners so that literacy becomes a tool they can use to better their lives and contribute to their communities.
