Community Initiated Self-Help Pilot Project

Empowered communities accomplish self-directed and inclusive development, which improve their quality of life. The goal of this project is for women and children in the Shan region of Myanmar to fully realize their rights. World Concern Staff will form and strengthen at least 10 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for women. As a result, women and their families will experience enhanced financial security as women start savings, access small business loans, and learn to manage funds via the Self-Help Groups. SHGs improve women’s confidence as well as management, facilitation and financial skills, and are an important stepping stone for women. By increasing economic well-being and stability in families, we increase the likelihood that children will not work, but will be able to enjoy their right to education and play.
